The 67-year-old Celebrity Big Brother admitted she was saved by Scientology who helped her into a rehab programme which altered the direction of her life.

Kirstie has spoken candidly about her use of cocaine and admitted she turned to the drug following her split from her first husband Bob Alley in 1977.

The Cheers actress was offered a line of cocaine by a man she fell in love with following their break up.

Her addiction then spiralled out of control, with Kirstie saying her occasional use of the drug turned into a dangerous habit.

Kirstie said: “I took one snort of cocaine, and I go, ‘Oh my God! I’m gonna do this every day for the rest of my life.

“I did a lot of cocaine. I was crazy.”

“There was about a year’s span that I did cocaine that I was doing it -– you could say –- more occasionally, on the weekend. Then my weekend became a three-day weekend, then it became four, then it became five.”

Kirstie’s drug binges left her fearing she would die as her heart would start to beat faster – leaving her terrified.

She explained: “I thought I was going to overdose almost every time.

“I would do so much at a time that I would snort the coke and then I would sit there, I would take my pulse.”

She said she would sit in a stupor and think to herself: “I’m dying, I’m dying, I’m dying.”

Kirstie said she was saved from her addiction to the drug by the church of Scientology, who put her into their treatment programme called Narconon.

With their help, Kirstie said she overcame her three year addiction to cocaine.

As well as this, she credits the church with helping her turn her life around.

Kirstie’s previously spoken about her years of yo-yo dieting, which saw her go from 16 stone to 12 stone and then back again.

However after following a diet plan with Jenny Craig, Kirstie said her life was transformed and she kicked the habit.

She said of her weight loss journey: “I’m much more disciplined [now].

“I’m on maintenance, so I have one Jenny Craig meal a day and then I’m on my own, but I also have my Jenny Craig consultant.

“If I feel like I’m going awry, I just call her and she gives me some tips and a pep talk.”

Since entering the Celebrity Big Brother house yesterday, Kirstie has become a firm fan favourite.

And she’s already reached the highest position in the house, after being named President after being in the show for less than two minutes.
